About Me
Hi there! I'm Joanne, a human-computer interaction (HCI) researcher that's curious in knowing how things work and how we can bring things from our imaginations into our reality.
After graduating from Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo, Canada, I packed my bags and moved to the beautiful mountainous landscape of Austria, where I joined the Media Interaction Lab at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria. I’ve since continued my HCI research journey at the MIT Media Lab in Cambridge, MA, USA.
I'm passionate in doing work that can bring positive change to our lives - in our work, leisure, and in how we connect with one another and the things around us. One of my latest efforts has been to create a textile-based wearable that can be used to enhance lower-limb prostheses with a sense of feeling.
If you get to know me, you'll soon discover my love for arts and crafts, illustration, travel, as well as my incurable appreciation for puns. I can often be found enjoying tea, learning German, sketching, and trying my hand at building things with different technologies. I like to savour and appreciate every moment and believe in the power of living in the present.
